Our offering stands apart from references available at mainstream retailers. Here, every globe has a story: glass sourced in Portugal, shaped during the Art Nouveau, Art Deco era or in the 1950s, 60s or 70s, paired with noble materials crafted by local artisans. Personalised guidance to help you find the ideal model for your workspace and décor.

Our collection: models, materials and prices

The Alfama Chic collection offers several table lamp models, each available in different finishes. You will find white opaline globes for a soft, even diffusion, and cut or moulded glass with a warm, graphic look. Textile cables are available in a range of colours: white, beige, gold, red, green, blue, pink, yellow or orange and more (discover our “bespoke” section) — to complement any furniture. All our models are offered at an accessible price, with the option to customise the finishes (switch, electrical plug, cable type and length) to suit your needs and budget.

All our models are sold with new wiring and an LED-compatible socket. We recommend a decorative filament LED bulb to combine warmth, low energy consumption and vintage aesthetics. The bulb is not included so you can choose the brightness level and shape that best suits your model. Some models accept a dimmable bulb to adjust light intensity — check the product sheet to verify compatibility based on the socket diameter.

Sourced or re-edited glass globes

Every Alfama Chic globe is sourced from flea markets and antique fairs in Portugal. Moulded or cut, transparent or in white opaline, these glass pieces were sometimes made during the Art Nouveau or Art Deco era, or in the post-war decades — the 1950s, 60s or 70s. Each piece is carefully cleaned in our workshop. Some imperfections may appear on the glass: slight irregularities, manufacturing marks, micro-bubbles. These are the hallmark of an authentic object that has stood the test of time, not a quality defect. When our stock of vintage glass runs low, we turn to re-edition: Portuguese craftspeople reproduce these shapes using techniques close to traditional know-how.

Unique bases in brass, Estremoz marble or Lioz stone

Every Alfama Chic table lamp rests on a base crafted by local artisans in one of our three noble materials: brass for its retro, luminous quality, Estremoz marble for its warmth and characteristic veining, or Lioz stone for its Portuguese mineral elegance. The bases come in two shapes: flat and circular like our Isabelle model, or cylindrical like our Laura model. Each piece is unique — the colours and veins of the marble or Lioz vary from block to block, making every lamp a truly singular object.

Artisanal assembly in our Lisbon workshop

Each table lamp comes to life in our workshop: globe assembly, fixing to the base, wiring with a cable covered in vintage-style fabric — made in Portugal or Italy — to current electrical standards. The electrical plug and switch can be modified according to the client’s preferences, as part of our bespoke offer. The result is a unique and exceptional lamp that tells a story through every material chosen.

How to choose your table lamp?

Choosing the right desk lamp means finding the balance between visual comfort, energy efficiency and decorative coherence. Here are the key criteria to consider before purchasing: daily use, the size of the work surface, desired brightness levels and the decorative style of the room.

Analyse your space and your use

Start by observing your working environment: the size of the work surface, the presence of a window, wall colours, type of furniture. For a home office used for several hours a day, choose a globe with good diffusion — white opaline is ideal for soft, even light without glare. If your space is in a living room or bedroom, a more compact base will suit better. For a shared or professional office, opt for a sturdy model with an integrated switch and solid cable.

Intensity and colour temperature

For extended screen work, opt for variable intensity with adjustable brightness levels. The ideal colour temperature is between 2,700 and 3,000 K for a warm tone that is easy on the eyes. From a golden yellow in the morning to a whiter, more neutral tone during the day, an E27-compatible LED bulb allows you to adapt the ambiance at any moment. On certain Alfama Chic models fitted with a tulip shade, the vertical axis is adjustable, allowing the glass globe to be tilted. A dimmer switch allows direct control of light intensity on some table lamps — contact us for more information!

Material, colour and finishes

Our models are available in several combinations: white opaline, cut or moulded glass globe, base in brass, Estremoz marble or Lioz stone, textile cable in white, beige, red, green, blue, pink, yellow or orange. For a light wood desk or silver accents, a beige or white cable pairs naturally. For a space with metal or polished concrete, opt for a black cable and a dark brass base. The cable colour is an important detail to decide before ordering.

What about a portable lamp too?

The table lamp is designed to stay in place on your desk or bedside table. If you want a light you can move from room to room — place on a shelf, hang on a hook or take to a covered terrace — our vintage portable lamp collection perfectly complements the range. Same aesthetic, same glass globes, same textile cable: an Alfama Chic portable lamp pairs naturally with a table lamp to create a cohesive atmosphere throughout your home.

Four decorative styles for your desk

The decorative style of a table lamp directly influences the atmosphere of a room. Here are the main families to know in order to find the one that matches your décor.

Vintage and retro style

The vintage family draws inspiration from interiors of the past: moulded or cut glass globes, opaline, brass and braided textile cables. These slightly patinated materials create a soft, muted effect, ideal for working in a cosy atmosphere. Placed in a home office or library, a vintage table lamp adds a nostalgic touch and character. It is the perfect choice for those who appreciate objects made by hand using traditional artisanal techniques.

Design and modern style

The modern family impresses with its clean lines, noble materials and minimalist silhouette. It fits perfectly in a contemporary office with a brushed aluminium or metal finish, a touch switch and an adjustable head. Models in this family are often fitted with an articulated arm or clip to direct the light precisely. Ideal for a graphic, refined workspace where discretion takes priority over character.

Industrial style

The industrial family highlights exposed metal, raw finishes and dark colours such as black, steel or bronze. It evokes the world of workshops and old factory offices. This family pairs particularly well with wood, brick or polished concrete to create a loft atmosphere. A metal shade with a black cable and an iron base adds a technical, authentic touch. That said, we do not currently have plans to develop this type of lamp.

Scandinavian style

The Scandinavian family favours simplicity, soft colours and natural materials such as wood, recycled plastic or white ceramic. The shapes are simple, compact and functional, with a fabric shade or a light wood base. This family suits a home where natural light is valued and artificial lighting is meant to be discreet and ergonomic.

LED: performance, consumption and lifespan

All our models are compatible with filament LED bulbs, which consume significantly less energy than a classic bulb for equivalent brightness. The lifespan of an LED reaches between 20,000 and 50,000 hours — representing several years of daily use before replacement. This practical choice reduces your energy consumption and carbon footprint day after day.

The filament LED is stable, flicker-free, and offers superior energy efficiency compared to any classic or halogen bulb. By choosing a dimmable bulb on compatible models, you can adjust brightness levels to suit your needs: more dynamic in the morning, softer in the evening. Eye protection is improved by the stability of the light output, with no intensity variation or flickering.

Which bulb to choose?

For Alfama Chic models, opt for a decorative filament LED bulb, with a maximum power of 4 to 6 W. Choose a colour temperature between 2,200 and 2,700 K for a warm tone, ideal for domestic use. For a more technical desk, a 3,000 K bulb offers neutral, dynamic light. Note: socket diameter varies by model, and the choice of dimmable LED bulbs is limited in terms of shape — check the product sheet before purchasing.

Lifespan and maintenance

A well-maintained artisanal table lamp can last for decades. The long lifespan of our models is ensured by quality components: new compliant wiring, brass socket, sturdy switch and durable textile cable made in Portugal or Italy. Each piece is checked in our Lisbon workshop before dispatch. Only the bulb will need replacing after several thousand hours of daily use.

To maintain your model, dust the globe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For the brass, use a non-abrasive product and a microfibre cloth. For Estremoz marble or Lioz stone, avoid acidic products and wipe with a slightly damp cloth. Check the condition of the cable and plug periodically. If you notice anything unusual, our customer service team is available by email for any repair estimate request.

Optimising your desk lighting

To optimise your desk lighting, combine your table lamp with a general light source — ceiling light or wall light — to avoid harsh contrasts. Adjust the variable intensity according to the time of day and the activity: reading, screen work or simply setting an ambiance. Place your model to the left if you are right-handed, to the right if you are left-handed, at around 40 cm from the work surface. With an LED bulb and a cable of the right length, your workspace becomes more comfortable, more pleasant and more efficient every day.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

What are the advantages of LED desk lamps?

The advantages of LED desk lamps are numerous: reduced energy consumption, long lifespan and superior energy efficiency compared to any classic bulb. An LED desk lamp provides soft, stable light, flicker-free, ideal for eye protection during long work sessions. Models with optimal lighting and variable intensity allow you to obtain a dimmable desk lamp, adapted to every moment of the day. The result: improved visual comfort, controlled energy consumption and a lifespan that can reach tens of thousands of hours.

What is the difference between a vintage model and a modern design lamp?

A vintage model draws inspiration from the shapes and materials of the 1900s to 1970s: moulded glass, opaline, brass, textile cable. It brings character and a warm atmosphere. A modern design lamp favours clean lines, brushed metal or plastic, and advanced features such as a touch switch, USB port or integrated LED. Both types can offer variable intensity depending on the model and bulb chosen.

Do sourced globes have imperfections?

Yes, and that is perfectly normal. Antique glass globes may show slight irregularities, manufacturing marks or micro-bubbles in the glass. These characteristics are the hallmark of an authentic object, made by hand at a time when industrial perfection did not exist. At Alfama Chic, every globe is carefully cleaned and inspected before assembly. These small imperfections are part of the soul of the piece — they tell its story.

Are Alfama Chic models CE compliant?

Yes. Each piece is fully rewired in our Lisbon workshop with new components complying with CE standards. The wiring, socket and switch are verified before every dispatch. You can purchase with complete confidence, with a return policy available within 14 days in accordance with our general terms and legal notices.

Do you offer bespoke models?

Yes, we create personalised pieces for private individuals and professionals. You can choose the textile cable colour, length, socket finish, base colour and globe type. The electrical plug and switch can also be modified according to your preferences. For a professional project, contact us to discuss your needs and receive a tailored partner offer. Wholesale with volume promotional conditions is available on request.

How to protect your eyes?

Eye protection relies on three criteria: a flicker-free LED, variable intensity adapted to the activity, and even diffusion through an opaque or frosted globe. White opaline is the most effective material for softening the light output and eliminating glare. Place your model approximately 40 cm from the work surface, slightly to the side to avoid screen reflections. Also use a general light source in the room to limit contrasts.

How to sort and choose among your models?

To easily sort our models according to your needs, use the filters available on our online shop: glass type, cable colour, price, base type (brass, Estremoz marble or Lioz stone). You can also contact us directly for personalised information and guidance in your choice. Our customer service team will respond promptly with all the information you need to make the right decision.

What is the lifespan of a desk lamp?

The lifespan of a desk lamp depends on two elements: the structure of the lamp itself and the bulb used. A well-built classic desk lamp — solid cable, brass socket, sturdy switch — can last for several decades. The lifespan of a filament LED desk lamp reaches between 20,000 and 50,000 hours, representing several years of daily use before replacement. It is a product that is both economical in energy consumption and very durable over time. Whether you opt for a design desk lamp or a budget desk lamp, always choose a model with a standard socket so you can change the bulb easily.

What styles of desk lamps exist?

There are many desk lamp styles to suit every interior. The vintage desk lamp charms with its glass globes and braided textile cables. The design desk lamp stands out in contemporary spaces with its clean lines. The industrial desk lamp plays on raw metal and dark finishes. The Scandinavian desk lamp favours simplicity and natural materials. The modern desk lamp often integrates a touch switch and an integrated LED. Finally, the clip-on desk lamp fixes directly to the desk to free up surface space. At Alfama Chic, we specialise in vintage and artisanal desk lamp styles, handcrafted in Portugal.

What is the best type of desk lamp?

The best type of desk lamp is the one that matches your use, your space and your decorative style. For a home office where ambiance matters as much as function, a vintage desk lamp in opaline or cut glass offers soft light and a unique character. For a technical workstation, an LED desk lamp with an articulated arm and variable intensity will be more suitable. For a Scandinavian or minimalist interior, a design desk lamp with clean lines will integrate naturally. The metal desk lamp (brass base) is also a retro option. At Alfama Chic, we guide you to find the model that corresponds to your ideal desk lamp — artisanal, durable and made in Portugal.
